Aquatics Operations Supervisor (Whitaker) (Personal Services)



This position manages day-to-day activities to ensure the Whitaker Family Y and High Street Y aquatics department are running efficiently and meets the expectations and needs of customers and staff. Assists with the management/administrative aspects and has operational control of a range of programs. Works on assignments related to program development and management initiatives, internal operating procedures, administrative/business processes and policies.

Typical Hours will be 11am-7:30pm. Hours will vary based on branch hours/activity and will include some weekend hours periodically. The desired candidate will have a regular 40-hour work week schedule to ensure coverage at times of high traffic and aquatic programming.

Level Scope

Provides immediate supervision of 15 - 20+ employees. Sets and delegates day-to-day tasks to achieve aquatics area objectives; plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and review the work of a diverse workforce. The operations supervisor will establish work schedules; provide or coordinate staff training; manage performance and work with staff to correct deficiencies; monitor work performed to meet agreed upon goals and objectives. A portion of time will be spent performing individual administrative tasks related to aquatics; however, supervisory activities must constitute a primary part of the job. Supervises area operations to ensure compliance with departmental or association policies, procedures, and defined internal controls. Ensures accountability and stewardship of resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental standards and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Supervise employees, including assisting the Aquatics Director in making decisions about hiring, evaluating, lead for scheduling/work assignments, work procedures, resolving scheduling conflicts and training. Responsible for determining and recommending training needs and planning, coordinating, and overseeing the day-to-day operations.

Directs customer service and support functions. Assists in performing all tasks necessary to achieve the organization's mission and help execute staff succession and growth plans. Assists in the Aquatic Director's efforts to recruit new employees, with the goal of attracting and retaining qualified individuals. Manages quality assurance programs.

Responsible for assessing program effectiveness, ensuring efficient operations for participants, and maintaining adherence to budgetary constraint.

Training and supervising new employees and tracking and measuring staff performance.

May lifeguard or teach swim lessons, as needed, due to staffing

Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree plus 2 years of operations experience preferred 4 years of experience in operations preferred. 1 year of supervisory experience required. Must have excellent computer skills to ensure accurate scheduling and timecard reconciliation.

SPECIAL SKILLS OR REQUIREMENTS:

First Aid, CPR and Lifeguard Certifications upon hiring preferred or certification obtained within 30 days/first available certification offering. Additional certifications required within 60-90 Days/first available certification offering: Local CPO Certification and Swim Lesson Instructor Certification. Once certifications obtained, must meet all requirements to keep certification current. Opportunities for professional development through trainer level certifications and leadership certifications are available. All certifications are paid for by the YMCA.
