Electrician (Telecommunications)

Job Summary:

Under limited supervision, conduct skilled electrical construction and repair work in the installation, alteration and maintenance of electrical systems, fixtures, and equipment in accordance with established safety standards and fire codes.  

This position is located at the Linde Technology Center (formerly Praxair) in Tonawanda, NY.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Performs a variety of electrical work such as installation, repair, alteration, and maintenance of complex electrical equipment (such as automatic controls, emergency generators, switchboards, transfer switches, lighting systems). 
  • Analyzes and troubleshoots electrical problems with equipment, replaces defective parts, reassembles affected equipment and tests for proper operation and safety. –
  • Performs preventive maintenance as scheduled or required on electrical equipment as recommended by the manufacturer and on-site safety programs. –
  • Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes. - Reads and interprets electrical blueprints and schematics.  –
  • Ensures all work meets prescribed standards of quality and ensures compliance with all laws, safety procedures, policies, and codes. –
  • Inspects electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes. –
  • Monitors performance of equipment and informs management of any potential problems. –
  • Identifies and communicates opportunities for improvement, cost savings, productivity/efficiency improvements and safety improvements. –
  • Maintains necessary work records including equipment records, logs, and time sheets. –
  • Assists other maintenance personnel on projects as directed.  

Skills, Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years relevant commercial or industrial electrical work experience –
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems, machines, and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. –
  • Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, drawings, schematics, specifications, codes, and handbooks.
  • Be familiar with the National Electric Codes, electrical theory, and be comfortable working with high voltage three phase circuits, generators, transformers, switchgear –
  • Ability to use various testing devices related to the electrical and mechanical trades –
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize work, as required –
  • Must have a current valid driver's license –
  • Working knowledge of computer applications used for compiling data and work records –
  • Above average interpersonal skills and the ability to function as a team member in a demanding service environment –
  • Ability to communicate with customers at all levels of the organization in a professional, effective manner –
  • May perform other duties as assigned.  

Working Conditions:  Primarily, work is performed in an indoor, controlled environment – but there will be occasional outdoor work. Work may be strenuous at times and may include bending conduit, lifting heavy objects, and standing, stooping, and kneeling for long periods.

 

Standard working shift is daylight, M-F. Overtime, shift changes, and emergency call-ins may be necessary to meet customer requirements.
