Position Summary
Reviews and determines the accuracy and technical ability of the estimator for vehicle damage estimations and total loss evaluations. Also trains material damage adjusters and participates in focused reviews regarding material damage claims.
Duties and Responsibilities
Conducts random and targeted vehicle re-inspections of repairable loss claims for our Direct Repair Facilities (DRF) members, staff appraisers, non-member shops and independent appraisers. Exercises independent judgment and discretion in the review of damage estimates and vehicles to determine the accuracy and technical ability of the estimator.
Participates in focused reviews in order to scrutinize the work product of an office during a designated period of time. Exercises independent judgment and discretion in the review of files, re-inspection of vehicles and examination of the use of salvers and other material damage vendors to ensure that proper procedures have been followed.
Confirms accuracy of total loss evaluations by re-inspecting vehicle salvage and reviewing evaluation to ensure that the vehicle matches the description and condition allowance.
Notifies the appropriate Branch Office of any modifications or changes to the repair process and/or estimates to help ensure the branch achieves the appropriate settlement allowance. Maintains a monitored diary system to provide follow up on refunds and estimate alterations that were identified during the re-inspection.
Reviews rental allowances authorized by the DRF and staff appraisers to ensure effective cost control practices are being maintained.
Identifies material damage claims handling problems related to fraud, improper estimation or total loss evaluation practices and faulty repairs. Prepares estimates and evaluations to provide a comparison as required.
Recommends policy and/or procedure changes related to the repair process as appropriate.
Participates on Catastrophe Team when required.
Prepares re-inspection reports for management. Provides results from the repairable and total loss inspections.
Assists claims management in providing procedural training for DRF to ensure uniformity and compliance with the guidelines of the Direct Repair Program.
Substitutes for material damage adjusters, as required, as a result of staffing issues due to short-term disability situations, or other absences, to ensure that the company's service philosophy is maintained.
Assists with training and remedial activities as requested from branches to address performance issues and skill deficiencies.
Assists in setting up new direct repair facilities and with related training.

This position will complete audits using the current audit tools to calibrate with the branch supervisors.
General calibration meetings may be required with each branch or state as well as participation in remediation planning.

Qualifications
High school diploma, or equivalent, required. Five years of previous experience in material damage, preferably with ERIE, including strong technical knowledge of vehicle repair and total loss evaluation, or equivalent, required. Some previous body shop experience preferred. Associate in Claims (AIC) designation preferred. Proficiency with automated estimating systems and claims management system required. Appropriate license as required by state. Valid driver's license and good driving record required. Daily travel, including overnight stays away from home, required. Position requires the incumbent to serve on the Catastrophe Team, which may include travel on short notice to other locations for periods in excess of two consecutive weeks.
