Data Science Engineer (Biotech)



Strategic Healthcare Programs (SHP) is a leader in analytics and performance management solutions serving the post-acute market.  We are an industry leader in helping Home Health, Hospice, and Skilled Nursing providers improve their financial and quality performance while complying with many regulatory requirements.  Additionally we connect the post-acute world to the broader provider markets to allow for optimal management across the continuum of care.

We are seeking a talented individual to join our company as a Data Science Engineer. As part of our Data Science team, you will develop and operationalize predictive models that drive healthcare decisions for over 10,000 Home Health, Hospice, and Skilled Nursing providers.

Data Science Engineer Duties and Responsibilities

  • Train and evaluate machine learning models utilizing a variety of modeling techniques including boosted trees, logistic regression, and deep learning.
  • Wrangle data from relational databases using SQL to construct training datasets.
  • Present data-driven insights to stakeholders using visualization and storytelling.
  • Write efficient and well-documented Python in a peer-reviewed environment.
  • Write automated tests in Python
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and business analysts to understand requirements and formulate use cases
  • Coordinate with Software Test Engineers on unit, integration, and regression testing.
  • Participate in a scrum team to scope, size, and execute stories in a collaborative fashion.
  • The position is remote with travel to Santa Barbara, CA up to twice per year.

Data Science Engineer Requirements and Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience developing predictive models
  • 5+ years of experience developing Python
  • 3+ years of experience with the Python scientific stack: numpy, pandas, matplotlib, seaborn, and scikit-learn
  • 3+ years of data science project collaboration using Jupyter Notebook or similar
  • Experience with large datasets (hundreds of millions of rows)
  • Understand Unit, Functional, Performance, and Regression testing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Bachelor's degree in computer-related field
  • Healthcare experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with C#, dot net, and Visual studio is a plus
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs development and deployment is a plus
