Instructional Assistant - Early Childhood (Finance)

The Instructional Assistant - Early Childhood will work under the immediate direction of the classroom teacher in assisting the teacher with the implementation and monitoring of IEP goals and objectives and curriculum for all assigned students. The physical ability to assist in lifting students for the purpose of positioning, changing, toileting, etc. is essential.
Responsibilities:
Knowledgeable about the educational goals and objectives for each of their assigned students and the classroom objectives
Continues to reinforce a student's IEP goals and objectives during "non-lesson" time, e.g. lunch, transitions, etc. This includes using communication systems and choice making wherever possible.
Continues to communicate with students using all learning modalities (oral, visual, auditory and kinesthetic) throughout the day and in every setting.
Assists in planning and implementing the daily program for students under the direction of the classroom teacher
Performs duties in the absence of the classroom teacher in the same manner as taught.
Follow through on all directions that are given by the teacher and therapists.
Utilizes the classroom teacher or other supervisors when needed or when unsure of procedures.
Responds to all students in a caring, supportive and respectful manner using methods that are age appropriate and as taught by the classroom teacher
Other duties as assigned.
Mandatory Qualifications and Requirements:
Education: Must have High School Diploma, Associates Degree or BS/BA
Experience: Experience in transition or vocational services preferred.
Certifications: ACRE certification or ability to obtain certificate and/or other certifications required by BHDDH and Rhode Island Department of Education and Teacher Assistant Certification or Higher
Substitution: Any equivalent combination of education and experience
