Safety & Environmental Compliance Administrator (Project Management)
Assures compliance with applicable federal Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), CAL-OSHA safety regulations and Company safety policies.
Coordinates the documentation of the Company Compliance Training Program for mandated environmental and safety regulations.
Accurately completes all workers' compensation paperwork, post-accident drug testing, modified duty and leave paperwork as necessary.
Acts as an informational resource for safety needs within the departments, workers' compensation, and safety committees.
Maintains on-line SDS database, ensuring all products are contained in the MSDS database and that SDS's are available as needed in the operations.
Prepares and maintains the Timberlands IIPP Program as mandated by the State of California.
Tracks safety incentive awards earned through the various departmental safety programs.
Works with outside consultants to improve safety performance and reduce incidents/injuries (e.g., sprain/strain program).
Provides advice regarding proactive safety management company-wide.
Participates as an active contributor at the California Timberlands and department safety meetings.
Coordinates, participates in, and documents external safety audits as needed.
Updates training requirements in HRIS or other training tracking system (currently WorkForce Ready) for all positions company-wide. Consolidates safety information and updates annual corporate compliance report.
Assures annual OSHA log reporting company-wide, and California Corporate Compliance Training Program for safety area are in compliance.
Provides information to operations managers for outside contractor use for training, as requested.
Coordinates annual hearing tests for all California locations. Provides mandatory follow-up information and re-testing schedules.
Ensures injury / illness reports are properly recorded on the OSHA injury log for all California locations.
Monitors contract agreements for compliance with Federal, State and Company regulations with regard to safety. Takes active role in service agreements and contractor oversight to reduce company liability.
Works with supervisors and other personnel company-wide to update training materials (LOTO, BBP, SDS, etc.). Responsible for document preparation and compliance documentation of the safety programs and Company Compliance Training Program. Reviews, updates, and prepares mandated written safety policies and programs, provides "train the trainer" sessions for supervisors.
Organizes and participates in routine internal safety audits of the operations to ensure day-to-day compliance of Company safety policies and procedures.
Provides follow-up on Corporate Compliance report variances and other safety compliance commitments, (i.e., CA OSHA Consulting Agreement), to the responsible Company employee and documents completion of fixed variances.
Consults with governmental affairs personnel about the impact of new regulations affecting workers' compensation or safety.
Serves as an active member of local safety associations, and any other organization that can benefit Company goals and community.
Keeps knowledge base current and participates in training opportunities within the safety and worker's compensation areas.
Administers the Early Intervention Program, ensures completion of accident investigations, and works with the third party administrator in following case management of workers' compensation matters. Makes incident reporting forms available for review by company personnel for all locations.
Participates in claims investigations, denials, stipulation awards, compromise and release, vocational rehabilitation, reviewing and estimating case reserves, annual reporting to the state, with a focus on reducing/eliminating ADA liability, medical management, and servicing our injured workers. Case settlement requires an approval process.
Assures that required reports are submitted to Federal and State safety agencies.
Assists in the coordination of training for mandated safety and environmental topics.
Prepares, updates, and maintains the safety training library for use by California operations personnel.
Tracks the compliance training data; compiles reports with respect to risks, and mandatory training obligations for environmental, safety and human resource standards set by the State of California and the Company.
Prepares and communicates the company-wide monthly safety report as well as the California workers' compensation cases and costs.
Contributes to managing claims costs by working with the workers' compensation administrator to assure regular personal contact and encouraging return to work.
Environmental Functions (for California Operations, unless noted as Company-wide):
Coordinates the environmental compliance responsibilities for GDRCo active and CRC active and inactive properties, including monitoring completion of tasks in California Operations Environmental Compliance Schedule.
Monitors collection sampling program, and may collect samples.
Completes information on California operations for the semi-annual compliance report to the board of directors on company-wide environmental compliance.
Coordinates with environmental consultants to ensure compliance with environmental programs; may assist company-wide to identify consultants and periodically inspect other operations.
Oversees hazardous waste disposal program and monitors pickup locations.
Provides annual CA Storm Water monitoring and reports with the support of contractors as needed.
KNOWELDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Safety or related field (or equivalent combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities).
5 years of relevant work experience in industrial safety or related field.
Have general understanding of federal and state requirements governing safety issues.
Must have ability to be certified in Respirator Training within a year of placement.
Proficient computer skills in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Must be comfortable training, presenting, and interacting with all levels of employees across the division.
Assume an active role in safety program implementation at the site level, be a presence on a regular basis.
Must have excellent organizational skills to handle data storage and multiple priorities.
Desired:
Certified Safety Professional, CSP certificate.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position is located in the Korbel, CA.
Works equally in the office and operating environment.
Mandatory travel to remote company locations; ability to walk on rugged terrain and inclement weather, safety seminars, Company functions, etc.
Physical expectations: able to lift 25 lbs. or more, regular standing, walking, and sitting; moderate climbing.
Requires the use of standard safety equipment in regulation with GDRCo.
Must maintain punctual and regular attendance and present appropriate professional appearance at all times.
