Mail Order Holiday Night Kitchen Staff (Finance)
We are sanitizing all touched surfaces daily.
We wear masks in the building when Washtenaw County is in a HIGH Covid status.
Masks and hand sanitizer are available everyday for all of our employees.
We are screening everyone who comes to work each day for symptoms.
What kinds of things do you do in this job?
Employee meals are a benefit for our employees. You will be part of a team, preparing and serving awesome, locally sourced meals for Zingerman's Mail Order staff. In addition to employee meals, you will also be responsible for producing some of our most popular foods made in our kitchen.
We clean a lot. After every meal, including washing dishes, refrigerators, prep surfaces and more.
Preparing and serving meals to our staff (over 400 people a day in December)
You will set up & tear down for each meal
Serve meals to our staff
Keep the employee break rooms and kitchen spaces clean
Sweep & mop floors
Work from opening and closing checklists
You will follow checklists and standard operating procedures (SOPS) in order to keep our food & kitchen safe, clean & tidy.
You will be making & packaging our very own Spiced Pecans
Compensation is $16.50 night shift
Where is this job?
Zingerman's warehouse is located at 610 Phoenix Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48108. We are on the AATA bus route.
What does it take to get hired in our Kitchen & Employee Meal department?
There are lots of things we are hoping to find in anyone who applies. (We've listed them below.) But there are three musts:
You must have experience cooking & preparing food in a commercial kitchen
You must meet availability requirements to be considered for this position. Full time availability is preferred. Part time availability will be considered, you must be able to work a minimum of 3 shifts per week with Monday-Wednesday as the preferred days.
Available Shifts:
Night Shift: 10pm-8am
You must be comfortable, bending, lifting and being on your feet for a 8-10 hours shift.
What kind of skills are required for this job?
There are a couple of things you'll need to have to make this job work:
You must love food!
Food preparation and cooking experience
Ability to read and speak fluently in English
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
ServSafe certification preferred, but not required
What kinds of personal traits fit well in this job?
You hate to let a problem go. You want to fix it before it leaves your hands.
You can do repetitive work without totally zoning out.
You love the game of how to follow a standard procedure yet do it with your own flair.
You are punctual. Being late kinda drives you crazy.

You love new experiences. You have a gut feeling that the experience of a crazy-busy holiday season in a windowless warehouse surrounded by 10,000 breads and coffee cakes is going to be fun.

You've got a deep well of relentless, outrageous enthusiasm & energy. Maybe you even love food. :)

When does this job begin and end?
Work starts in November and ends on or around December 22nd, 2022
Are there any other perks?
Absolutely. All training is paid. All breaks are paid. If you're working a longer shift and there's a lunch or dinner break, we make homemade meals and serve them for free. (They're delicious.) Will I get full time work?
Yes. If you would like to work full time hours, that is available. If you only want part time hours, that is ok too.
Can I apply for full time work after the job ends?
Yes, we encourage it. We'll have a limited number of both full & part time positions at Mail Order and elsewhere in the Zingerman's Community of Business after the holiday.
What's the hiring process like?
It's quick. We don't have a typical interview for our holiday crew. We'll ask you to come in to complete some paperwork. That's it. When you're done you'll leave knowing when to return for your first paid shift. You can choose a date. We can get you working within one week, usually sooner. We aim to get you working and paid as soon as possible.
