Instructional Assistant Professor - Biomedical Engineering (Finance)

Description:

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Houston (UH) invites applicants for a non-tenure track Instructional Assistant Professor position. We seek a dynamic educator and academic leader with a strong background in biomedical engineering, curriculum development, student-centered teaching, and academic program coordination.

This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the department's growing instructional mission while supporting strategic initiatives related to student success, experiential learning, and outreach. The ideal candidate will bring experience in both classroom instruction and program administration, with a demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence and academic innovation.

Key Responsibilities:
• Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Biomedical Engineering with a focus on instructional quality, student engagement, and real-world relevance.
• Develop new course content, innovative teaching methods, and assessments aligned with ABET outcomes and department learning goals.
• Mentor undergraduate students through advising and career development activities.
• Coordinate with faculty and staff to support course scheduling, academic planning, and curriculum mapping.
• Lead or participate in departmental outreach initiatives, student recruitment efforts, and alumni engagement programming.
• Contribute to program-level assessment, ABET accreditation efforts, and continuous improvement strategies.
• Supervise or collaborate with teaching assistants and provide instructional support to large-enrollment courses as needed.
• Assist in planning student events, instructional workshops, and other co-curricular activities.

Required Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field.
• Evidence of teaching effectiveness and instructional innovation at the college level.
• Demonstrated experience in academic advising, curriculum development, or program coordination.
• Proven ability to coordinate academic operations such as course scheduling, student programming, or event planning.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to supporting student development and educational equity in STEM.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in managing or supporting ABET accreditation processes.
• Background in imaging, physiology, molecular biology, genomics, or related laboratory instruction.
• Experience in student mentoring, academic advising, and undergraduate research integration supporting experimental design, technical skill development, and academic growth.
• Familiarity with instructional technologies and active learning strategies while supporting undergraduate lab courses and mentoring students in core BME subjects.
• Prior involvement in student recruitment, alumni outreach, or public-facing academic programming.
