Job Description
Position Summary
Direct all wine quality assurance and analysis from grapes through bottled product. Direct all package quality assurance for incoming materials through end consumer. Plan and execute experimental evaluation of processing and packaging. Resolve discrepancies between desired results and process capabilities. Is responsible for staff supervision/training, conducting employee evaluation, maintaining employee motivation and moral.
Responsibilities
Lead all Analytical Chemistry laboratory operations related to the generation and communication of chemical testing results.
Review and interpret technical data generated by the analytical instrumentation and communicate actionable recommendations to teams.
Develop and execute an innovative departmental budget that will strategically leverage diverse resources, prioritize and support real time operation and long-term productivity, quality and efficiency goals.
Build strategic working relationships with peers in achieving and maintaining the accuracy and consistent flow of information, execution of procedures, and performance of the overall operations.
Interact with vendors to exploit technology, purchase equipment and services and resolve long term equipment, training and process issues.
Direct daily Bottling Quality assurance through Supervisor and Lead Technicians.
Coordinate and reconcile winemaking and marketing objectives with production capabilities.
Prepare and control operating budgets for Technical Services.
Review and update Technical Services procedures to assure that quality objectives are being measured accurately.
Review measured produced results and recommend corrective action where indicated.
Evaluate market feedback (from consumers, distribution, sales) and take corrective action where indicated; communicate results.
Communicate process capabilities and controls to current and potential customers.
Evaluate and recommend modifications as required for new production process and procedures.
Decide and implement improved systems for interdepartmental communication of process, objectives and capabilities.
Provide feedback to suppliers on their process results; analyze and document changeable errors.
Evaluate product shelf-life; recommend disposition of out of date merchandise.
Develop capital budget objectives and justification to improve Technical Services commissions.
May establish and maintain procedures and guidelines for ISO 9001:2000.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in Chemistry/Food Science required
7+ years in Analytical Chemistry with proven success calibrating, operating, troubleshooting and maintaining analytical instruments, such as Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometry systems, spectrometers, photometers, calorimeters, etc.
Minimum 5 years of management experience with a proven track record of successfully developing, mentoring, and coaching teams to drive clarity in times of ambiguity and complexity
Strong word processing, spreadsheet, database management abilities
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Collaborative team player with excellent inter-personal leadership skills
Highly motivated problem solver with a clear track record of results to deliver objectives in a complex environment.
Exceptional people manager who looks to win as a team and coaches teams to anticipate next steps and incorporate course corrections when hurdles appear.
This individual must be a self-starter, with the ability to recognize priorities and complete tasks on a timely basis.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in Chemistry/Food Science preferred
Prior experience in method development, validation and documentation in Analytical Chemistry.

Primary office environment may be warehouse/distribution setting (For Production Roles)
Primary office environment may be tasting room/barrel room (For Hospitality Roles)
Travel required approximately 10% of the time
