Controller (Bloomington, MN) (Finance)



The Controller is responsible for providing strategic financial leadership and operational support to the site. This role oversees Accounting, Finance, Accounts Receivable (A/R), and Accounts Payable (A/P), ensuring compliance with US GAAP, FASB, and Company policies while driving financial discipline, operational excellence, and business insights. The Controller partners closely with the Site VP/GM and functional leaders to align financial performance with business strategy, leveraging digital tools, data, and analytics to improve decision-making and operational outcomes.

What will you do?

Financial Oversight & Leadership
  • Directs and manages the site's Accounting, Finance, A/R, and A/P functions to ensure integrity, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Partners with the Site VP/GM to integrate people, technology, processes, and systems for both strategic and tactical initiatives within plan/forecast constraints.
  • Provides coaching and development to the site's finance team to build capabilities, succession planning, and digital financial literacy.
Financial Close & Reporting
  • Owns the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to deliver timely, accurate financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Reviews and approves key account reconciliations; conducts detailed fluctuation and variance analyses.
  • Prepares and delivers the monthly Business Unit Review (BUR), ensuring comprehensive variance explanations and collaboration across departments.
  • Develops data-driven dashboards and KPI reporting to support operational and financial decision-making.
Audit, Compliance & Controls
  • Manages the site's annual external audit, including preparation of audit materials, coordination with auditors, and response to inquiries.
  • Maintains a strong internal control environment
  • Monitors compliance with Company financial and accounting policies, ensuring site-wide understanding and adherence.
Operational Finance & Analytics
  • Conducts ad hoc financial and operational analysis to challenge assumptions, uncover trends, and identify opportunities to improve profitability and efficiency.
  • Oversees inventory valuation, physical inventory management, and standard costing. Continuously challenges cost accuracy to ensure reliable product-level profitability and operational performance metrics.
  • Utilizes modern reporting and analytics tools (CPP Toolbox, ERP enhancements, BI platforms) to automate reporting and deliver actionable insights.
Planning & Forecasting
  • Leads the development of the site's annual operating plan and periodic forecasts, partnering with operations and sales to ensure detailed, accurate, and data-driven assumptions.
  • Manages the annual Capex budget an accurately forecasts cash on a weekly basis
  • Facilitates cross-functional alignment of financial plans with business strategy, while maintaining accountability to results.

What can you bring to the table?

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field required; CPA or MBA strongly preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 3+ years in a Controller or equivalent leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, FASB, and external audit processes.
  • Experience with ERP systems (Oracle preferred, business intelligence (BI) tools, and digital financial reporting platforms.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Proven ability to analyze complex financial data, develop insights, and communicate effectively with non-financial leaders.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with experience developing high-performing teams.
