Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a safety specialist to join our Ashland LLC business at our Wilmington, Delaware location. This role supports all businesses and facilities across the company and will require interacting with individuals from many locations. This position will report to the senior manager operations and laboratory safety.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
The Safety Services Professional is responsible for providing support and expertise to drive Ashland's safe and compliant operations within the global safety group. This role will help the global safety team and organization drive towards a zero incident culture. Key duties for this role include:
o Leading training programs for specific topic areas (e.g. safe driving program) and coordinating training processes (administrator for electronic learning management system) and coordinating training delivered by the global safety team
o Maintaining safety metrics, tracking and developing new metrics, reporting, and working with groups to improve performance
o Work with other team members to develop content and initiatives to improve safety culture and safety performance in support of Ashland's Zero Incident Culture focus
o Communicating results / issues / health of safety programs based on data analyses
o Assist in maintaining corporate safety resources (such as procedures, work instructions, guidance documents on company internal webpages)
o Develop communications highlighting successful safety initiatives and best practices
o Lead or participate in chemical manufacturing facility safety risk assessments, audits, training, and support visits
o Over time develop subject matter expertise in safety topics through participation in internal and external training, collaborations, and internal partnerships
o Develop and conduct comparative analyses on facility safety programs to identify opportunities and strengths for continuous improvement and sharing
o Other program support responsibilities as assigned
In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:
o BS or BA degree in safety or other related degree
o Familiarity with safety regulations, programs or processes
o Ability to travel 15% of the time
o Able to work within a fast paced and dynamic work environment independently
The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:
o 1+ years of industrial safety and regulatory experience in a manufacturing, chemical, or refinery setting.
o Safety certification (e.g. ASP, GSP) or ability to obtain within 12 months
o Six Sigma or lean certification
o Experience working in a chemical or petrochemical company
o Emergency response experience
