Principal Network Engineer - Telecommunications (Finance)
The Network Engineer Principal is responsible for all network planning and engineering functions related to Shentel's Access network infrastructure. Primary responsibilities include performing capacity planning, new technology evaluation, and project management of major system upgrades and extension projects. Additionally, the Network Engineer Principal will generate detailed project plans and reports for major Shentel fiber initiatives, and proactively identify tactical and long-range performance or capacity improvements. The successful candidate will have the flexibility to work from home on a routine basis, but must reside in or very near Shentel's network footprint.
Qualification Requirements:
a. Education: BS degree in a relevant engineering or technology field is required. Other candidates with a strong technical background and substantial industry or military experience will be considered.
b. Experience Level:
i. 10 or more years of experience in the telecommunications industry is required
ii. 7 or more years of headend design, outside plant design, or fiber optic network design
c. Special Requirements:
i. Current CCNA, CCNP, or similar certifications preferred, but not required
ii. Optical and IP network design with hands-on experience designing and deploying networks in a service provider or large enterprise environment
iii. Working knowledge and experience with SD-WAN, Segment Routing and IPv4 to IPv6 network conversions
iv. Strong project management experience with emphasis on standing up new networks and/or migrating network from design to implementation
d. Skill Requirements:
i. Detail oriented and strong organizational skills
ii. Demonstrated strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills
iii. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
