Job Description
The Director of Quality is responsible for establishing, overseeing, and communicating the overall quality philosophy, goals, and objectives of the Transportation Division. Through input from customers, executive management, supply chain, engineering and program management teams, and manufacturing facilities, the Quality Director assesses, recommends, implements, and monitors policies and systems for continuous quality improvement. Additionally, the Quality Director establishes and maintains the Quality Management System and ensures that the Division's quality policies and objectives are consistent with TPI corporate quality policy and objects and exceed customer expectations.
Position Duties and Responsibilities
• Obtaining certification and administer compliance to IATF 16949 requirements.
• Acts as management representative for IATF 16949 standards and issues.
• Reviews, updates, develops, approve, and implements Management Systems Policy documents.
• Conducts yearly management reviews of the quality system.
• Documents trends in quality on a monthly basis.
• Utilizes the process approach outlined in the IATF 16949 and Customer Specific Requirements as a baseline for analysis and use of company level data and manage reporting continuity between all operating units.
• Represents the Company with customer and industry personnel by visiting customers and attending industry conferences.
• Reviews and governs adherence to advanced quality planning activities (internal and suppliers), elements, and schedules via audits.
• Assures understanding and compliance to customer quality targets and objectives during the contract review process. Monitor and or drive action plans for conformance.
• Creates and manages key performance indicators (daily, weekly and monthly) necessary to meet overall departmental objectives; monitors and drives action plans for conformance.
• Reviews quality action plans for timely completion and effectiveness (i.e., follow up on internal audit action plans).
• Participates, oversees, and directs quality representatives on Integrated product teams, that are a part of Advanced Product Quality Planning Process (APQP) and successful product launches.
• Oversees Advanced quality activities of Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) with manufacturing facilities: PFMEA, Control Plan, Product Quality Plan, Run at Rate and Capability Studies in example.
• Manages risk management process and facilitates with process owners ensuring risks are brought forward and mitigated through product launch and by process owners.
• Works across the organization with corporate functions: business development, legal, Global Supply Chain and ensures Customer Specific Requirements (CSRs) are incorporated and cascaded in contracts and Agreements.
• Directs supplier monitoring processes and oversees processes ensuring raw materials are conforming and compliant.
• Manages and oversees IMDS (International Material Data System) requirement.
• Reviews and establishes quality-related training programs as required.
• Audits conformance to management system objectives.
• Drives standardization throughout the business units.
• Monitors and advises the Advanced Product Quality Process.
• Engages and direct supplier quality activities.
• Manages and mentors direct reports.
Leadership Responsibilities
Manages a team of Division advanced quality, product quality, supplier quality, and quality systems professionals. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Ensures a culture of continuous improvement. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Position Requirements
• Bachelor of Science Degree is required with strong preference in mechanical or manufacturing engineering area; MBA, MS, or other advanced degree preferred.
• At least ten years of experience in quality and QS within the automotive industry.
• In depth knowledge of OEM quality processes.
• Working knowledge of the automotive industry, customer specifications, requirements and knowledge of IATF 16949.
• Knowledge of customer scorecards and warranty systems.
