Senior ETF Product Manager (Finance)
Northern Trust Asset Management ("NTAM") is the sponsor and investment manager of FlexShares®, a line of 29 US-listed exchange-traded funds ("ETFs") with approximately $11.8billion in AUM across a variety of alternatively weighted index and actively managed investment strategies. FlexShares enjoys broad-based corporate support from a leading Chicago-based financial services company and currently ranks 16th among sponsors of US-domiciled ETFs.
NTAM's Funds and Managed Accounts Group ("FMAG") currently seeks a Senior ETF Product Manager with significant experience in managing and developing ETFs. The Senior ETF Product Manager is responsible for assessing, developing and implementing measures to strengthen and extend the FlexShares product line, consistent with NTAM's investment expertise, market conditions and the emergent FlexShares brand. The Senior ETF Product Manager is also responsible for qualifying and integrating the investment, administrative and operational processes necessary to ensure effective product outcomes across all functionally defined departments and external service vendors. Additional duties include industry and competitive product analysis, collaborative engagement with key partners, management and support of fund governance, business analysis and select special projects. Occasional travel within the United States may be required (< 5%).
The Senior ETF Product Manager leads a team of two experienced product managers and reports to NTAM's Head of ETF and Mutual Fund Product Management.
Collaboration between NTAM's Strategic Product Group, FMAG's Head of Product Strategy and ETF Product Management are critical to the overall success of the FlexShares business. The Senior ETF Product Manager will help sustain effective partnership among these three teams.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
•Analysis of ETF industry trends and competitive products, with recommendations for product positioning and the identification of actionable growth opportunities
•Management of all product development and management processes to sustain collaborative engagement among all key stakeholders (e.g., ETF Investment Strategy, Portfolio Managers, Sales, Marketing, Fund Counsel, Legal, Compliance, Finance, etc.)
•Successful and timely implementation of new product initiatives
•Monitoring and management of external and internal service providers as necessary to ensure orderly and effective product outcomes, consistent with product objectives, formal policies and procedures
•Risk management, including adherence to escalation policies regarding the identification, reporting, resolution and remediation of operating errors or issues occurring among external or internal service providers (e.g., Portfolio Management, Compliance, Middle-Office, etc.)
•Management of Fund Governance / support of the FlexShares Board of Trustees
•Select special projects
Necessary Knowledge and Skills
•A practical and technically-informed understanding of exchange-traded-product investment strategies, product operations and capital-market dependencies
•Awareness of the ETF industry's arc of evolution and curiosity about its future development path.
•Working knowledge of fund accounting, fund administration, custody, middle-office, and compliance functions
•An understanding of '40 Act regulatory requirements, including financial and regulatory reporting requirements
•Strong organizational skills
•Relationship management skills
•Effective communication skills (written, verbal, presentation)
Required Experience
•Proven track record in assessing and qualifying investment strategies against investor needs
•7+ years of experience with U.S. registered fund servicing or the equivalent (including fund accounting, custody, transfer agency, fund administration or middle office)
•Significant prior experience with ETF product development and management
