Chemist II (Finance)
The primary responsibility of this position is utilizing analytical microscopy techniques on automotive paint coatings to assist troubleshooting and product development efforts. Responsibilities include hands-on defect sample preparation, Optical and Scanning Electron Microscopy, Energy Dispersive Spectrometry, data interpretation, and report writing. Other accountabilities include maintenance of equipment, allocate resources and people according to business priority, lab supply inventory, review and promote safety in laboratory work area, and enhancing the capability of the lab. This position interfaces with internal PPG Technical and Sales Customers and with outside equipment service providers. The candidate also will be involved in the routine and troubleshooting analysis in support to the Automotive technical and sales teams by utilizing chromatography, ICP, wet chemistry analysis.
Education & Experience Necessary
BS Chemistry/Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science and Engineering, or Metallurgical Engineering and 3-5 years of lab experience. The successful candidate must be experienced in analytical instrumentation, careful sample preparation, and understanding of analytical techniques for problem solving and characterization of coatings systems. Ability to use computers for complex scientific applications and apply these skills to their work. Previous coatings formulation and application experience is desired.
Functional/Technical Expertise Necessary
Experience with optical and/or scanning electron microscopy.
Experience in metallurgical sample preparation (e.g., cross-sectional analyses)
Experience with conducting maintenance on analytical equipment or other equipment.
