POSITION SUMMARY:

The Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at the University of South Florida, Morsani College of Medicine is seeking an Instructor to perform general duties of a Speech Language Pathologist, including voice and swallowing examinations and therapies at the USF Health Voice Center. We are seeking a Speech Language Pathologist with specific expertise in Voice. The incumbent will have a joint appointment with the Communications Sciences Disorders Department and the Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery Department and will have both teaching and clinical responsibilities.POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:

Master's or Medical degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field of specialization or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience and otherwise qualified to perform assigned duties. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Instructor.

Must hold or be eligible for a full, unrestricted Florida Medical license or foreign equivalent required. To perform this position the candidate will obtain and maintain a full un-restricted FL Medical license, maintain credentials in the USF Health Faculty practice plan, and be a medical staff member in good standing at the hospitals he/she is assigned to perform clinical duties.

  • A bachelor's degree in communication sciences and disorders (or related field with appropriate prerequisites completed for graduate school admission).
  • A Masters graduate degree in speech-language pathology.
  • Successful completion of a national licensing exam.
  • Completion of a postgraduate clinical fellowship.
  • Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Clinical Instructor I, II or III.
  • Positive factors for consideration include but are not limited to knowledge and skills in instrumental voice and swallowing evaluation, excellent record of clinical care, experience with teaching/giving lectures, supervising experience. We will also consider applicants who have just completed clinical fellowship year if they have string academic career interests. Having excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team based environment is required.

PREFERRED:

A Clinical Fellowship in Voice is preferred. A personal or educational background in singing/music is encouraged.

Teaching, research, and service: The position includes involvement in academic activities such as teaching and research per interest. In this capacity, you may represent the university, college/school, or department.

Administrative: Includes management of documentation, billing and quality care.

Clinical: Provides patient care. The position will include providing ambulatory patient care. Care will include evaluation and treatment of a variety of of swallowing, voice, and airway disorders. There will be responsibilities to co-manage patient care with laryngologists. Patients may be affected by a variety of disease states including neurologic disease, traumatic brain injury, iatrogenic conditions, stroke, cancer, and other chronic diseases. Responsibility includes training family members/caregivers, as well as other professionals and collaborating with other members of the care team.

Other duties: As directed by the Chairman.
Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate higher-level administrator of a State university.
Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities.
Responsible for academic advising and related activities.
