Senior Center Program Manager (Project Management)



Position Summary:
Under supervision, plans, organizes and coordinates the daily operations, functions, and activities of the Senior Center. The Senior Center Program Manager works closely with other HHS Departments to deliver informational and supplemental support services regarding the health, wellbeing and independence of the elders in the community and to offer social events and programming. The Senior Center Program Manager is responsible for ensuring participants and their family/caregivers have a safe, positive, and secure environment that will address the daily living, wellness and nutritional needs of participants while helping to maintain the dignity of each participant enrolled in the Senior Center program.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
· Oversees the Senior Center and supervises the Senior Center staff.
· Develops calendar and schedules activities for outings, workshops, conferences, physical activities, and educational presentations from solicited input by our senior participants.
· Coordinates with other tribal programs to participate and host activities for senior participants.
· Organizes and collaborates programming utilizing the traditional skills, arts and knowledge for the Senior population.
· Guarantees that USDA approved meals are served and meet IHS Environmental Health and Safety standards.
· Ensures compliance with any other applicable environmental health and safety rules and regulations, to include OSHA safety standards.
· Develops a recruitment plan to encourage additional seniors to participate in the Senior Center meals and activities with the assistance of staff.
· Responsible for coordination, and implementation of Senior Olympics and other similar activities.
· Works with funding agencies such as ALTSD and Title VI-Nutrition Services on budgets and reports for grants and tribal funds.
· Attends to a variety of office administrative details, such as answers correspondence, processing of purchase orders, travel, meeting and conference arrangements, equipment purchases, repairs, and personnel document preparation.
· Assures that staff are functioning in a safe manner, and abiding by all Federal, State, and Tribal laws, regulations and rules regarding safety and health.
· Reviews and approves leave requests and timesheets for Senior Center staff.
· Plans and schedules staff training and license renewal as needed.

· Ensures proper maintenance of vehicles, fueling and preventive maintenance; tracks and records all vehicles activity on logs; reports any damage to vehicles and scheduling of maintenance for vehicles; tracks and maintains maintenance records for each vehicle.
· Maintains data for number of meals served and number of participants per activity.
· Attends ongoing training and in-service training dates.
· Maintains department standards of strict confidentiality on all matters.
· Meets periodically with the Senior Center Organization as needed.
· Assist with kitchen and or transportation as needed.
· Represents the Pueblo with dignity, integrity and cooperation in all working relationships with staff, community and the public.
· Performs other job-related duties as directed.


Knowledge, Abilities, Skills and Certifications:
· Knowledge of Santa Ana Pueblo traditions, language, history and culture.
· Knowledge and adherence to all pertinent tribal, federal, and state laws.
· Knowledge of department organization, functions, objectives, policies and procedures.
· Knowledge of the proper food handling, cleaning, and care of food preparation equipment.
· Skill in working with grants, reporting and preparing budgets.
· Knowledge of business practices, procedures and office management
· Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs in a Windows environment.
· Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
· Knowledge and ability to supervise staff.
· Ability to demonstrate moral character, honesty, tact, fairness, lack of prejudice, and desire to help when dealing with people.
· Ability to exercise independent judgment.
· Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Gerontology, Social Work, Community Health/Services or closely related field. Plus 3 years-experience with at least 1 year being in a supervisory/management capacity or equivalent amount of education and experience. Food service experience is preferred. Ability to speak the Keres Language preferred. Must have a positive attitude and be able to work independently. Must be in good health and free of communicable diseases. Must be willing to submit to health screenings, such as TB testing. Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation including a motor vehicle check. Must possess a valid New Mexico driver's license and be insurable under the Pueblo's insurance.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk and to stand, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, or crawl; have close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move and transfer 50 pounds or more.


Work Environment:
Work is generally performed in a Senior Center setting with a moderate noise level. Situations where extreme caution must be exercised occur in the daily activities of this job.
