Position Overview

The Quality Control Supervisor must provide leadership to the lab technicians in addition to develop and maintain relationships with key customers, suppliers, facility managers, DOT personnel, State, County, and Municipal personnel.  He/she will be responsible for assigning duties to each lab technician along with maintaining their training.  The QC supervisor will also be required to calibrate all lab testing equipment, along with maintenance and repairs. He/she will be responsible for maintaining Accreditation files with this information.  The QC Supervisor is responsible for evaluation of volumetric data necessary for adjustments to mix production to ensure compliance for all applications and projects.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the training and evaluation of the lab technicians.
  • Planning daily task to facilitate the completion of research and testing projects. 
  • Supervise all testing and research activities according to APAC-Kansas Shears Division's goals and strategies and according to the lab manager's directions. 
  • Devising and applying formulas for the interpretation and calculation of test results will be the responsibility of the lab supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The QC laboratory supervisor must possess an analytical mind that is capable of understanding complex problems.  He/she must be able to devise an appropriate plan of action and be able to interpret the results to arrive at a logical conclusion.

He/she must have the following skills;

  • Must pay attention to details

  • Have good planning skills
  • Have good problem solving skills
  • Have good written and oral communication skills
  • Team building skills

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Must know and understand all DOT regulations, such as sampling frequency, sampling methods, graduation requirements, quality requirements, etc.
  • Proven ability to develop relationships and to work with teams as both a leader and a participant.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills; building rapport, listening, presenting, giving, and receiving feedback.
  • Must be able to perform simple mathematic calculations.
  • Must have or acquire basic computer skills and be able to work with e-mail and simple spreadsheets.

    Physical Requirements

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear.
  • May require sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Lift, carry and hold materials, tools and supplies.
  • Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to hold weights of 5-10lbs in a stretched arm position for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift 75 lbs (minimum) on a repetitive basis.
  • Able to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time.

Work Environment

  • Able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Able to work extended hours if needed.  
  • Job hazards include exposure to dust, noise, fumes, and all weather conditions.
