Director, Communications & Government Affairs (Administrative)

Job Description and Responsibilities

The Director, Communications & Government Affairs is responsible for overseeing all Communications and Government Affairs efforts for EVRAZ North America. Partnering closely with our Executive Leadership Team, the person in this role will work with a variety of stakeholders to develop and deliver EVRAZ's NA internal and external communications strategies and plans, as well as oversee local, state, provincial, and federal governmental affairs matters affecting the company's commercial interests across the United States and Canada.

  • Align communications strategy, plans and activities to the company's big picture, including coordination with Moscow communications and investor relations teams where appropriate

  • Leads and coordinates all internal communications activities for the company

  • Develops employee communication strategy by clearly outlining purpose and intended audience and implementing in an understandable and audience-appropriate format and style

  • Leads internal branding execution by linking to corporate strategy and driving connection by employees to the company's values

  • Develops effective and appropriate communication tools and messages for managers and leaders, and crafts key messages and broad internal correspondence for the CEO and other Senior Leaders, that reflect each leader's individual style while supporting a cohesive corporate communication package

  • Provide strategic communications expertise, counsel and support to the organization's C-Suite on messaging and development of PR plans

  • Manage the corporate brand in North America for use in internal and external materials, including advertising

  • Create compelling company content across traditional and digital platforms, including social media

  • Manage development of the corporate giving and community investment program to enhance corporate accountability

  • Manage inquiries and relationships with traditional media outlets and serve as the company's spokesperson to the media and the general public

  • Develop and distribute materials that convey the company's policies or position on issues- issue press releases, arrange interviews and compile press kits as necessary

  • Ensure EVRAZ North America's employees are aware of changes and projects within the company

  • Distribute executive messages, prepare presentations, internal memos and conduct meetings to share information as necessary

  • Develop print materials and branding strategies for employee use and draft and edit content for all Public Relations, Government Relations and Community Relations initiatives

  • Oversee local, state, provincial, and Federal governmental affairs matters affecting the Company's commercial interests across the U.S. and Canada

  • Participate in U.S. and Canadian steel association public policy committees to shape priorities and drive advocacy of key issues with relevant government officials

  • Participate in company-specific policy advocacy for relevant issues that impact Company product demand and open new market opportunities

  • Coordinate with Company political consultants to develop relationships with key state, provincial and federal political officials in our operating states to elevate the visibility EVRAZ in the community and advocate on issues of affecting the Company

  • Prepare materials and craft messaging for CEO to utilize for meetings with government officials. Compile and update business statistics for advocacy use by CEO, investments, climate footprint, and import data

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, English, Journalism, Marketing, or related field of study required. Master's Degree preferred

  • At least 10-15 years' experience in Internal and External Communications and Government Affairs required; Experience with mid to large size industrial/ manufacturing companies a plus

  • Strong background representing an organization to the public and news media outlets

  • Technology savvy with a keen understanding of various types of communication channels; Strong understanding of social media

  • Expert level Microsoft PowerPoint skills

  • This position will require at least 30% travel

  • Developed research and proofreading skills to ensure all materials are high quality and accurate

  • Strong problem- solving capabilities; practiced capacity to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders

  • Self-starter with a high degree of confidence and assertiveness, yet diplomatic and composed

  • Excellent communicator capable of synthetizing large amounts of information into clear, concise and effective messages for the target audience that form a coherent narrative
