Position description
The role of the LPN on Mayo 16 will be to partner with the multidisplinary team to provide thorough, excellent patient care to our complex pediatric patients. The LPN will be involved with the rooming of the patient and caregivers, completing the flow form, providing education on preventative services, assessing and completing medication documentation, and completing vital sign measurement and documentation. The LPN will compare findings to the patient's baseline or expected normal range and report in an ongoing manner to the RN Care Coordinator or healthcare provider. As the position evolves, we look to expand the LPN's role to include: administering oral medications and vaccines, reinforcing patient education, helping with case management as appropriate, and helping with the Pediatric Family Influenza Clinic.
The licensed practical nurse (LPN) provides nursing care to assigned patients under the direct supervision of the registered nurse (RN) or other assigned supervisor and accepts delegation from the RN/assigned supervisor in meeting the needs of the patient/family. The LPN collects data through observation and communicates information to assist the RN and/or provider in patient assessment and care planning. The LPN participates as a member of the health care team and accepts delegation from the RN/assigned supervisor and provider in meeting needs of the patient/family. The LPN delivers care in accordance with the patient care plan, policies and procedures of the organization and principles of relationship-based care. The LPN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and instructing; and may participate on committees or projects, including quality improvement projects.
Qualifications
Graduate of a school of practical nursing or passed LPN Boards after a defined period in a professional nursing program (e.g., some states allow RN students to take the LPN board exam after completing one to two years in the RN program). If graduation did not occur within the last two years, one year of LPN experience working in an applicable setting is required.
Additional qualifications
Recent pediatric and/or ambulatory experience is preferred. The position requires excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and experience working in a team environment. Strong keyboarding and computer application skills are required. Prior experience with the electronic medical record is preferred. The LPN must be flexible and adapt to unpredictable situations within the clinic setting. The LPN will demonstrate leadership, effective communication, and excellent critical thinking skills.
License or certification
Current LPN license by applicable state requirements.
Arizona and Florida: Maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers.
Midwest: Maintains current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers from one of the following programs: American Heart Association or American Red Cross. Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.

Compensation Detail
Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $20.28 per hour.
