Corporate Counsel - Data Protection (Project Management)

Shipt is growing, and we are searching for a Corporate Counsel - Data Protection to join our team! We are looking for a business savvy attorney with a background in privacy and security to join our growing Legal Team and help fuel the Company's rapid growth.
Your Responsibilities
Shipt has a wide variety of internal and external business partners who will look to you for guidance on data privacy and security. Our team is approachable and good-natured and known for being autonomous and excited to step out of comfort zones to pitch in and get things done. In this role, you'll:
• Work closely with our internal Engineering, Product and Marketing teams to evaluate and mitigate potential data protection risks;
• Sync with Security, Information Technology and Compliance teams to implement and maintain relevant data protection standards (i.e. CCPA, PCI-DSS, SOC 2, HIPAA/HITRUST);
• Provide support and guidance for any incident response implicating potential breach of confidential or personal information;
• Create, negotiate and draft applicable data protection-centric agreements with partners and vendors;
• Be organized and demonstrate the ability to balance, triage, and manage multiple time-sensitive tasks effectively and independently;
• Communicate (video, in-person or phone) with internal business partners to understand applicable legal needs;
• Work effectively and collaboratively with a growing legal team, as well as cross-functionally with members at all levels of the organization;
Requirements
• 2+ years of experience in US domestic privacy and security law
• A law degree from an ABA-accredited law school and an active membership in at least one state bar
• Working experience with modern technology companies/startups/e-commerce and principles of modern software development
• Good business acumen, emotional intelligence, and strong interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated capacity to effectively handle competing demands
• Proven ability to communicate complicated legal issues to business partners in plain English
Nice to Haves
• Prior in-house experience at a tech company or startup
• CIPP/US Certification
• Prior exposure to CCPA
• Excellent professional judgment and a good sense of humor
