Manager, Clinical Education – PA (Healthcare)



SUMMARY:

Reporting directly to the Campus Dean, Master of Physician Assistant- and working closely with the Campus Director, Academic Education is responsible for maintaining clinical sites, student placements, and contractual agreements new clinical affiliations for the PA program. Provides professional leadership and support for clinical preceptors and enables an environment which fosters creativity, responsiveness, and self-responsibility.  Oversees, supervises and manages staff and students assigned to clinical curriculum, makes phone or on site visits, mediates conflicts, records attendance, and supervises clinical affiliations to ensure that the experience is adequate and achieves a satisfactory level of performance. Remains current in applicable PA clinical topics, participates in faculty meetings, instructional seminars, and in-service training sessions.  Participates in campus activities such as faculty meetings, student functions, open houses (as necessary), new student orientations, and advisory board meetings.

  • Is responsible for developing and maintaining student clinical placements with identified facilities. Requests clinical placements, online and manually, and confirms. 
  • Advises the Campus Dean, MPA of the general effectiveness of the clinical education portion of the program.  Assesses and evaluates clinical sites to ensure that clinical objectives are met with the guidance of the Director of Academic Clinical Phase Committee
  • Plans, coordinates, and manages faculty and students assigned to clinical facilities.
  • Collects evaluation feedbacks from students, staff, and clinical sites. Ensures preceptors provide periodic feedback of clinical performance immediately after supervised clinical practice experiences (SCPEs).
  • Orients students to SCPEs, health and safety requirements.
  • Assists Campus Dean, PA with strategic planning for clinical relationships and placements.
  • Works with Registrar for student's clinical year scheduling.
  • Validates with clinical affiliate staff the effectiveness of student placement and progress in meeting mutually established objectives.
  • Implements faculty feedback from clinical rotations. Evaluates the effectiveness of clinical experience.  Disseminates information.
  • Coordinates and provides orientation to new preceptors regarding clinical policies and procedures.
  • Strives to develop strategic, enduring relationships with facilities that lead to outstanding placement opportunities to West Coast University graduates.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned

 

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited college or university, Mater's preferred which includes course work in research, clinical field, education, or administration required.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:  

Current Driver's License.

 

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Leadership knowledge in the program field to cultivate a learner-centered environment and to foster excellence. 
  • Knowledge in technological support and delivery of program area and services. 
  • Knowledge and evidence of strong supervisory and management skills as applicable to specialized program area.  
  • Knowledge of state, federal and local laws/regulations relating to programs, governmental compliance and other regulatory standards such as Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, WASC, and other accreditation standards. 
  • Experience with MS Office. 
  • Knowledge of applicable databases and computer application systems to supply the most accurate information, reports, and projections. 

Program specific requirements:

  • Must have at least one year's experience in education, preferably PA clinical education or health related field. 
  • Knowledgeable of medical community and established relationships with its professional members preferred. 
  • One to two years prior experience working with or in clinical sites, placing students, and coordinating related documents preferred.
