POSITION TITLE:Head Custodian REPORTS TO:Recreation Maintenance Supervisor SUPERVISES:Part-Time Staff PURPOSE OF POSITION: Performs cleaning, custodial, and sanitation duties primarily at Papillion Recreation Community Center and Field House facilities, providing an exceptionally clean and sanitary facility for the general public. The incumbent serves as the lead person providing direction and support to other janitorial staff. An incumbent will be required to work varied hours during the week, including evenings and weekends. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Orders, organizes, maintains, and recommends purchases for janitorial equipment and supplies. Researches equipment and supplies, negotiates pricing, and reviews invoices for payment. Prepares and presents reports on building condition and needs. Creates Work Order requests for areas/conditions that need maintenance and possible contractor attention. Maintains custodial MSDS books and monitors for bio-hazard waste removal. Perform cleaning, janitorial, and sanitation duties on Community Center and Field House facilities and/or other assigned recreation and City facilities as requested included but not limited to: all floor surfaces (carpeted and uncarpeted), classrooms, child watch, community center areas, aquatic deck, locker rooms, all restrooms including sinks, urinals, and toilets, staff office areas and break rooms, catering kitchen floors, and surfaces, lobby spaces, vending areas, play areas, fitness areas, running track, elevators, stairwells, water fountains, etc. Completes general cleaning of above areas by mopping, vacuuming, buffing, cleaning counters and sinks, drinking fountains, benches, vending machines, fixing minor plumbing issues, cleaning mirrors, windows, washing rubber mats, dusting air vents, etc. Performs custodial tasks as needed to ensure a clean facility for the public and staff, including removing trash, general cleaning, refilling supplies, and other necessary custodial functions. Assist maintenance with larger seasonal cleaning jobs. Including but not limited to windows, floor finishing, deep cleaning carpets. This may entail overseeing a contractor perform the work. Assist maintenance with seasonal decorations. Organize, maintain and recommend purchases for janitorial equipment and supplies. Assist in determining cleaning needs and adjust janitorial and sanitation schedules as necessary. Clean and report graffiti, vandalism, and other incidents. Create Work Order requests when needed. Assist facility managers and facility maintenance personnel with various daily tasks as requested, i.e., changing light bulbs, painting, unclogging sinks and drains, etc. Maintains accurate records of custodial and maintenance supplies received and used, and notifies supervisor of deficiencies in supplies. Assist maintenance with the set-up, clean-up of assigned areas as requested. Operates small tools, cleaning, and electronic equipment. Follows uniform and dress code policy and ensures part-time staff adheres to the dress code policy. Provide excellent customer service and maintain effective relationships with fellow workers. Complies with City and departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Provide leadership, direction, and support to custodial staff. Provide training and coaching, and performance feedback. This includes all cleaning procedures, equipment, City and departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Ability to maintain regular and dependable attendance on the job, including attendance and job performance for possibly prolonged periods of time when called out on short notice due to weather conditions, emergencies, and similar situations of public necessity. ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSES: Must possess a valid drivers license at the time of hire.Must have a high school diploma or equivalency.Formal training and/or certification in the proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment preferred.Must have a minimum of three (3) years of previous janitorial or custodial work experience, preferably in a public facility or any satisfactory combination of experience and training. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed generally indoors of the Papillion Community Center and Field House with occasional assistance needed in the immediate surrounding of the two facilities and entryways. Seasonal facilities are exposed to weather and various outdoor elements. Work is generally performed during late night and early morning hours and requires continuous physical exertion at a fast pace. The use of cleaning agents, solvents, and machinery poses a slight health hazard. Exposure to a variety of environmental elements, including dust, noise, and other irritants. Work requires constant physical activity, including walking, running, standing, kneeling, bending, crouching, reaching, stooping, lifting, and carrying various supplies, equipment, and other materials, i.e., tables, chairs, commercial cleaning equipment, materials, and supplies. In addition, pushing and pulling are required while mopping, moving furniture, equipment, fixtures, operating floor equipment, handling trash barrels, vacuums, and mop buckets. Requires repetitive foot, arm, shoulder, hand, and back movements to perform cleaning duties and operation of equipment. While performing the duties, the incumbent is required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects or supplies and equipment. In addition, hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate various pieces of office and rental equipment. The incumbent is required to do some occasional lifting, moving, and carrying objects unassisted up to 50 lbs. Work is performed in a highly public setting and requires interaction with a variety of people. Work may occasionally be required in times of dim lighting. Vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Occasionally will deal with distraught or demanding individuals.
