Job Title: Sr. Technical Designer, HOKA Apparel and Accessories

Reports to: Director, Product Development - HOKA Apparel

Location: Portland, OR (Hybrid)

The Role

As the Senior Technical Designer, you will manage the technical aspects of all apparel categories from initial design development prototypes to final approval for production. You will lead fit sessions in collaboration with Design and Product Development, ensuring the technical, functional, and physical fit are appropriately executed to achieve the design aesthetic. You will identify potential production, quality, and costing challenges and make recommendations. Effective communication with business partners, overseas offices, and factories on all development updates is crucial to drive the final results required. You will play a critical role in establishing HOKA apparel as a trusted leader in the apparel sector.

Your Impact

  • Develop and manage the technical specification packages for apparel prototypes.
  • Comprehensive understanding of physical fit; evaluation of body size, shape, and the relationship of clothing on the target body.
  • Document fit, sizing, and construction updates throughout the entire product life cycle.
  • Collaborate with business partners to gain clear direction and consensus of fit intent.
  • Stay connected to your designer's aesthetic and know where their inspiration comes from.
  • Research direct competitors and aspirational brands.
  • Ensure size and fit consistency across all product categories by creating fit blocks.
  • Lead fit sessions on live models.
  • Effectively communicate design's fit intent to vendors for bulk production while maintaining brand standards.
  • Strive for continual improvement that drives product and process enhancements.
  • Identify potential production, quality, and costing issues and make recommendations to ensure brand integrity.
  • Meet seasonal and brand deadlines.
  • Participate in departmental and cross-functional meetings as appropriate.
  • Foster an open communication and team environment with all business partners.
  • Work closely with the QC team on any fit issues or concerns.
  • Travel overseas may be required.

Who You Are

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Apparel Manufacturing, Design, Patternmaking, or equivalent.
  • 8+ years' experience in the Apparel Industry including patternmaking and construction experience with full knowledge of the total production timeline.
  • Experience working effectively in complex global organizations, satisfying the needs of diverse constituents and often working under the pressure of competing and sometimes conflicting priorities.
  • Expertise in fit, patterning making, and construction.
  • Working knowledge of grading and manufacturing methods.
  • Production patternmaking, grading, and construction for multiple product types & categories.
  • Ability to proactively troubleshoot and problem solve.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively influence.
  • Strong computer skills - PLM, Illustrator, Photoshop, Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in Patternmaking software; Gerber, Lectra & Optitex a plus.
  • Experience in 3D software Browzwear.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Must be able to multi-task and work on multiple projects and seasons at one time.
  • Ability to stay relaxed in a fast-paced environment.
  • Thoughtful and good decision-making skills are needed.
  • Keen ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Motivated team player and self-starter.
  • Apply problem-solving techniques and skills.
