Narrative Designer (Star Wars) - Temporary Assignment (Creative Design)
Respawn Entertainment is a AAA game development studio that was founded in 2010 by former co-founders of Infinity Ward and creators of the multi-billion dollar Call of Duty and Modern Warfare franchises. In 2017, Respawn was acquired by Electronic Arts, a leading global interactive entertainment publisher. We've shipped Titanfall and Titanfall 2 to critical acclaim, and recently shipped a free-to-play battle royale game in the Titanfall universe, Apex Legends. We are currently hiring for our Star Wars™, Apex Legends, and Super Secret VR game development teams. We're looking for a highly skilled Narrative Designer who will embrace our culture and share his/her hard-earned expertise to help us create an incredible Star Wars™ experience for our players in a fun, third-person action adventure setting. We're picturing an avid gamer who is passionate about this much beloved IP, and who will collaborate closely the design team and other departments to ensure seamless implementation of narrative-focused gameplay systems and content.
**This position is a temporary assignment to start, with potential for longer term employment. Working hours are full time and onsite at our studio in Chatsworth, CA. (Relocation is not offered for this position.)**
What you'll do...
Collaborate with the narrative team to implement and support narrative-focused content, events, and systems.
Under the direction of the narrative team, act as a champion of story, characters, thematic coherence and narrative through gameplay across development.
Support other writing, design, narrative content and lore needs of the game as needed or directed. May be tasked with some writing.
Ideally, you will have...
3+ years professional experience as a Designer for games (strongly preferred.)
Experience with professional game design tools. Experience with Unreal Engine is highly desired.
Experience focused on creating and implementing narrative game content and systems in shipped games. AAA experience is ideal.
Fluency in one or more scripting or programming languages.
Familiarity with and appreciation of the Star Wars™ universe, stories, and lore.
Passion for third-person action adventure games.
The ability to communicate game design concepts clearly and concisely.
Ability to process and react to feedback from multiple sources.
Effective interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills on a multi-disciplinary game development team, including a basic understanding of how other departments operate.
A sense of timing and taste.
An understanding of visual storytelling, camera techniques and mise-en-scène.
