Master's degree in a counseling related field required. Must have completed a clinical practicum during Master's program.
Three years Master level clinical experience required with at least six months of experience working with children/adolescents.
Professional license preferred of LSW, LCSW, LPC, LMFT or BSL; if not licensed, must have National Certified Counselor (NCC) certification.
Must have experience with:
Conducting and interpreting mental health screening and assessments for very young children
Evidence based practices
Treatment methods that reflect the culture-specific values and treatment needs of clients
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to listen and engage in shared decision making
Must have audio/visual/verbal activity to provide supervision for the clients and to perform essential job function.

Consulting with teachers and staff
Mental health and behavioral consultation to classroom and management staff in Head Start and Early Head Start Classrooms.
Classroom observation based on referrals- The Mental Health Consultant will observe classrooms and children based on referrals made by teachers, instructional coaches or parents.
Triage and assess a wide range of emotional and behavioral concerns in a school setting and then be able to refer students to appropriate course of treatment or emergency care service
Mental Health Consultant will complete psychosocial assessment and intake with each student which will include a combination of observations, assessments/scales, caregiver interviews, and teacher reports.
Functional behavior assessment including data collection, development of Positive Behavior Support Plan, detailed explanation of PBSP components, and modeling of PBSP for classroom staff
Administration, scoring and written summary of parent/teacher standardized behavior assessment tools
Liaison to Family Service Workers for B/MH referrals and supports
Report and action plan- After the psychosocial assessment is completed, a report must be generated. This report should include an action plan that includes recommendations on how to work with the child in the classroom and any recommendations for families.
Participation in child Team Initiated Problem Solving Plan (TIPS) meetings
Interdisciplinary meetings- In this meeting the child observation will be discussed with the instructional Coaches, the teachers and the parents or guardians. The report will include recommendations to work with the child inside the classroom and at home.
Work with various assessments and tools as supplemented initial classroom observation, followed by monthly (or as needed) observations to screen for potential social, emotional and behavioral concerns.
Prepare and compile reports: based on observations and assessments, to be presented at seasonal interdisciplinary meetings, and/or during in-house conferences and audits.
Monthly submission of documentation that identifies the date, the child, the program, the classroom, the center, service rendered and time duration.
Data analysis, interpretation and written summary of Behavior Incident Report (BIR) data
Quarterly meetings: to discuss the mental health services and address areas of need and improvement to ensure the best quality of services to children and their families.
Will help manage referrals for BCCC to OP clinics and referrals for Psychiatric Evaluations and Medication Management when needed
Will provide professional development for staff on areas identified and requested by BCCC staff
Consulting with coaches and family advocates
Providing the program with written documentation and recommendations from all site visits.
Assist The program to implement strategies to identify and support children with mental health and social and emotional concerns.
Assist Teachers, including family child care providers: to improve classroom management and teacher practices through strategies that include using classroom observations and consultations to address teacher and individual child needs and creating physical and cultural environments that promote positive mental health and social and emotional functioning.
Assist Staff to address prevalent child mental health concerns: including internalizing problems such as appearing withdrawn and externalizing problems such as challenging behaviors
Help both parents and staff to understand mental health and access mental health interventions, if needed.
Assist In the implementation of the policies to limit suspension and prohibit expulsion as described in Head Start Performance Standard
