The Washington Post is seeking avisionary leadertoshape the future of our growing audio team.
The director of audio is responsible for thelong-termstrategy and daily operations of The Post's audio team, which includes more than a dozen journalists whose work reaches millions of listeners each month. The team produces" Post Reports ,"our flagship daily podcast, andhascreatedseveral othershowsincluding" The Next Four Years ," " Presidential " and" Can He Do That? "Thegrouphasalsodevelopedacclaimed andhigh-impactnarrative podcastsincluding" Canary: The Washington Post Investigates ."This director will also take a leadership role in experimental efforts,such asour AI-powered audio updates on the 2020 election.
The ideal candidate will haveexcellent news judgment andexperience developing distinctiveshows. Strong candidates will have a track record of innovation in audio storytelling, an excellent ear for sound design and sixth sense about what's next in audio formats.Theability topartner witheditors, reporters,producersand audioengineersin the development of ideaswhileelevatingthe team's work through editing, coaching and collaborationis essential.
A willingness to experiment and think big about the futurewill be necessary for success.An entrepreneurial spirit and a deep understanding of the competitive landscape and business trends in the audio space is required. The director will be responsible for coordinating with the product,subscription andadvertisingteams as we seek opportunities toexpandouraudience for audio products and makethemessential to more subscribers. Experience in the development and execution of third-party partnerships, whetherutilizingnew technology ordevelopingexclusive storytelling, is a plus.
