Role description:
This position will require a person who is self-motivated and dedicated to contributing to our team's success. Beyond the educational preferences, attention to detail, a strong work ethic, ability to work both collaboratively and exercise good professional judgement, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and willingness to take initiative are crucial characteristics. Being able to take direction while thinking critically and creatively to guide projects to completion is also vital for success and professional growth. The successful candidate will be working alongside and supporting task managers, technical experts, and project managers on multiple projects.
Role accountabilities:
Key responsibilities will include a combination of groundwater and soil data/sample collection, site operational support, and remedial system operations and maintenance through field activities, supporting client deliverables and regulatory requirements in the office, and project administrative support.
Additional opportunities for experience include:
Oversight and implementation of field pilot tests and remedial systems (various technologies)
Assisting with routine management, operation, troubleshooting, and monitoring (routine sampling and performance monitoring) of active site remedial systems and technologies (e.g., oil/groundwater recovery, soil vapor extraction, and leachate/groundwater collection and treatment systems)
Performance of various preventative system maintenance activities, including troubleshooting and repair of mechanical systems
Sampling of soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air, and soil vapor following State and Federal standards
Conducting field tests (e.g., hydraulic, airflow/vacuum, and geotechnical)
Oversight of contractors (e.g., excavation, remedial system installers, electricians, etc.)
Oversight of drilling operations (installing monitoring wells and logging soil or rock descriptions)
Office responsibilities may include the following:
• Assist with preparing tables, figures, drawings, reports, possibly specifications and other project documentation that meet Arcadis and client requirements and comply with national standards and codes of practice • Perform a variety of routine tasks, to provide experience and familiarity with engineering, methods, practices, and programs • Identify information sources and collect relevant data to support project delivery • Act as a project resource, completing allocated activities to meet budget, timeframe and quality objectives and meeting or exceeding client expectations • Analyze data to support the design of engineering solutions • Develop understanding of the services delivered by Arcadis, of the client's business and the industry sector to facilitate personal networking and to develop personal credibility in the industry

The successful candidate will be involved in interpreting and evaluating field and analytical data in order to prepare site characterization reports, remedial investigation reports, engineering designs, permit applications, and construction-related documents.
This position does require travel and field work. During some periods, field work may be up to 50-80% of your time, with travel requiring hotel stays. Candidates must be willing to work outside in all weather conditions and for extended periods. Candidates must also be able to meet the physical demands associated with performing field work, including lifting heavy equipment, working in a standing position for extended periods of time, working alone at remote sites, etc.
Field work will frequently be performed at project sites with environmental media (e.g., soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, etc.) that has been impacted with hazardous substances and/or hazardous wastes. However, Arcadis provides substantial Health and Safety training, support and mentoring for all project activities, and promotes a strong safety culture where employee and public safety comes first.
Candidates must be proficient with MS Word and MS Excel. The ideal candidate will have excellent written and strong interpersonal communication skills, multi-tasking skills, and efficient time management.

A Bachelor of Science (BS) in a Geology, Geosciences, Environmental Science, or Civil, Environmental, Chemical, Mechanical or related engineering discipline
Minimum 3 years of directly-related work experience
Proficiency in USEPA or other standard operating procedures for:
Volumetric Purge Groundwater Sample Collection
Micropurge/Low Volume Purge Sample Collection
Method 5035 Soil Sample Collection
Soil Gas Sampling
Familiarity with one or more of the following Agencies/Programs and firm understanding of the requirements thereof:
Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ)
Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (LDNR)
LDEQ Risk Evaluation Corrective Action Program
LDNR Statewide Order 29B
Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality
Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), and
TCEQ Texas Risk Reduction Program
Proficiency at using Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
A current valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Current Transportation Worker's Identification Credential or ability to secure Credential within 4 weeks of hire date.
Current OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Training
Preferred Qualifications:
Working toward, or holds, Engineer in Training (EIT), Geologist in Training (GIT), or other relevant professional certification • Detailed knowledge of relevant national standards and codes of practice • OSHA HAZWOPER Supervisor Training
