Overview

Job Title: Category Manager - Liquid Fuels

Location: Onsite 5 days per week. We are open to candidates who can work out of the following locations - Alpharetta, GA, Kansas City, MO, or Houston, TX

Pay is dependent upon experience and will be discussed during the consideration process

Reports to: Director of Energy

Position Summary: We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Category Manager to lead the sourcing and management of Liquid Fuels for our industrial manufacturing operations across the United States. This role will be responsible for managing over $100 million in annual energy spend, ensuring security of supply, cost optimization, and risk mitigation.

As a key member of the Energy Management team, the ideal candidate will bring proven experience in vendor negotiations, stakeholder engagement, market intelligence, risk management, and project execution. You will also support operational needs through both structured procurement strategies and responsive spot market purchases.

Role & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Category Ownership:

  • Lead category strategy development for liquid fuels (On & Off Road Diesel, Gasoline) across all U.S. sites.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities, leverage economies of scale, and ensure compliance with company goals.

Procurement and Supplier Management:

  • Execute RFPs, vendor qualification, contract negotiations, and performance evaluations.
  • Maintain and enhance relationships with key suppliers and service providers.
  • Manage fuel and gas supply agreements ensuring cost-effectiveness, service reliability, and risk coverage.

Internal Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Partner with Plant Operations, Finance, Legal, EH&S, and Logistics teams to align procurement with business needs.
  • Support site-level needs and escalate as appropriate.

Market & Risk Management:

  • Monitor energy market trends and recommend risk mitigation strategies.
  • Manage spot purchases when required due to supply chain or operational events.

Planning and Project Execution:

  • Support small-scale capital and operational energy projects (e.g., fuel storage upgrades, metering systems, fuel ordering).
  • Track project progress, support financial assessments, and ensure timeline compliance.

Reporting & Compliance:

  • Maintain procurement documentation and reporting for internal and external audit readiness.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with federal, state, and local fuel regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain, or related field (MBA or advanced degree is a plus).
  • Minimum 5-8 years of relevant experience in energy procurement or industrial category management, including fuel and/or natural gas.
  • Strong understanding of energy market dynamics, fuel logistics, and gas transportation contracts.
  • Demonstrated experience in:
    • Contract negotiation and supplier management
    • Running RFPs and strategic sourcing
    • Risk management and spot purchasing
  • Project planning and execution
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% across the U.S.
