GENERAL PURPOSE
Work under the close supervision of the Custodial Foreman performing a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled tasks and duties in the custodial care of County buildings including the County Jail and off-site locations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, supervisors, County employees, elected officials, attorneys, law enforcement, judges, other agencies, and the general public.
FLOORS :
Sweep, scrub, and mop floors as well as empty mop water.
Strip, wax, polish, and buff floors using industrial powered machinery.
Vacuum, spot clean, and shampoo carpets using industrial powered carpet machinery.
Adjust, clean, and oil floor machinery; change brushes, rollers, buffers, and other associated attachments.
GENERAL :
Wash, dust, and polish furniture as well as woodwork and shelving.
Empty and re-line trash and recycle receptacles, wash trash and recycle receptacles, and empty ash cans.
Wash and clean walls, metal, drinking fountains, windows, and window coverings.
Dust all intake and exhaust vents, light fixtures, and other furnishings.
Change light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.
Pick up and stock supplies.
Clean up spills.
Respond to requests for custodial / facility services.
Pick up litter around buildings, parking lots, and landscape.
Report the need for maintenance or repair of facilities to the appropriate supervisor.
Correct or report any fire or safety hazards and place barriers in public areas.
Assist in snow removal and leaf removal.
RESTROOMS :
Clean, sweep, scrub, and wax floors.
Clean, disinfect, and de-scale lavatories, urinals, and toilet bowls.
Clean mirrors, sinks, vents, and water fountains.
Clean and dust ledges, stalls, partitions; light fixtures, and woodwork.
Replace deodorizers, toilet tissue, hand towels, and soap as well as clean dispensers.
Note condition of restrooms and report damages, water leaks, clogged drains, and other conditions requiring maintenance.
SECURITY :
Check security of building before leaving.
Lock doors and turn off lights.
Open facilities as needed.
SUPPLIES :
Keep utility storage area and custodial equipment clean and in good order.
Inspect and maintain assigned custodial equipment and small tools for proper operating condition.
OPERATIONAL/DEPARTMENTAL
Maintain state-of-the-art skills and knowledge in the proper and safe techniques of building maintenance.
Keep and maintain record of work completed; monitor and maintain work requests, including computerized work orders.
Report to assigned worksite with regular, predictable, and consistent attendance.
Peripheral Duties
Serve as a member of various committees as assigned.
Perform other duties as directed and assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Any combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the work.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge of equipment, materials, and supplies used in custodial duties
Some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions
Knowledge of custodial chemicals
Knowledge of, and ability to learn, specialized computer operating systems
Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment including snow removal equipment
Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule
Ability to work under pressure and/or frequent interruptions
Ability to navigate stressful situations while maintaining composure
Ability to understand and follow exacting verbal and written instructions
Ability to prioritize work and carry out assigned projects to completion
Ability to communicate effectively, in English, both verbally and in writing
Ability to use standard custodial equipment and tools properly and safely. Equipment and tools include, but are not limited to, floor buffers, steam cleaners, carpet cleaners, washers, vacuum, mops, broom, and other tools such as feather dusters both properly and safely
Special Requirements
Incumbent may be required to work overtime, irregular hours, varied shifts, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Must have and maintain throughout employment a valid Driver's License, as well as meet eligibility requirements of "acceptable driver standards" as defined by the County.
