Data Collector - School of Public Health (Finance)

We are hiring immediately for a Data Collector to join the UTHealth Houston School of Public Health in Houston, TX. In this position you contact study partcipants to schedule and conduct interviews, collect, and enter data. The ideal candidate should have 2 years of related experience with a focus on public contact.

Position Summary:

Interviews research subjects, primarily in the field or at the study center. Collects data. Records data for various health studies. Assists with other project tasks, such as organization of files, site reports, and development of new project materials.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Contacts study participants to schedule interviews in the research study, by telephone, text, or email.
  • Interviews and establishes rapport with study participants in order to encourage complete accurate responses and continuing participation in the study. Works in the field, primarily at the study site at the UTHealth Houston School of Public Health. Conducts interviews in an environment, which may be dirty, have unpleasant odors, or be in generally unfavorable locations or weather conditions.
  • Decides methods of tracing participants (phone and address verification, check public records), how to conduct interviews (whether some questions are inappropriate), and whether callbacks are necessary to get further information while coding or entering data. Researches newspaper files, hospital records, funeral homes, and all other available resources to obtain names, addresses, phone numbers, and other information about study participants.
  • Project manager or principal investigator reviews work.
  • Conducts intervention program with research subjects and refers to appropriate physician or healthcare practitioner if necessary.
  • Schedules tests and physicals.
  • Utilizes the equipment as trained by project manager or principal in order to obtain the required information.
  • Codes and edits information for research projects for entry into database.
  • Developing and editing intervention program materials. Assisting with the development of program protocols.
  • Developing site and project reports. Handles administrative details (ex. time and effort reports, mileage reports, organizing files and equipment)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

  • Trained by project manager or principal on techniques to interview, complete questionnaires, and operate equipment. May need to be bilingual.

Minimum Education:
  • High School diploma

Minimum Experience:
  • Two years related experience with emphasis on public contact.
  • May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.

This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code ยง 51.215

Residency Requirement:
