Peer Coach (Healthcare)
The Peer Counselor will serve as a recovery agent for participants in the Peer Operated Center program. The Peer Counselor will provide and advocate for effective recovery-based services to aid in creating a stable environment for individuals recovering from an Opioid or Stimulant use disorder, a substance abuse disorder, and/or a mental health condition. The focus of the position is improving daily living skills and improving access to programming. The Counselor position brings a unique asset to the Peer Operated Center as a person with firsthand learned experience in recovery that allows the Counselor to fully empathize and relate to the struggles of program participants and offers hope and support in overcoming obstacles.
It is imperative for the Peer Counselor to have knowledge of the Recovery process, signs and symptoms of substance use and mental health concerns, and community resources that aid independent living. The Peer Counselor should also have the ability to easily engage participants and build appropriate therapeutic alliances with solid boundaries.
