Portfolio & Partnerships Officer (Finance)



For this U.S. based position, the expected compensation range is $80,640 - $120,960 per year, which includes base pay and short-term incentive.

The compensation range for this full-time position applies to candidates located within the United States. Our salary ranges are determined by reviewing roles of similar responsibility and level. Within the salary range, individual pay is determined by several factors including performance, knowledge, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. EcoAct is seeking to hire a Portfolio & Partnerships Officer. This role can be filled anywhere in the US.

EcoAct is an international climate consultancy and project developer that supports companies to set robust science-aligned net-zero strategies and achieve their climate targets. Founded in France in 2005, the company now spans three continents with offices in Paris, London, Barcelona, New York, Montreal, Munich, Milan, and Kenya.

What will you do?

Working within EcoAct's Nature and Technology Based Solutions team (NTBS), the Portfolio & Partnerships Officer will support in enriching the portfolio of innovative carbon offsetting projects.

The role will help to identify carbon offsetting investment opportunities or any future nature-based asset, looking for investment through strategic partnerships and sourcing carbon credits from project developers, for our clients.

These projects will be internationally sourced, working with local partners all over the world, both historical partners and new project developers to discuss availability, quality level and price of the environmental projects and assets proposed.

With the support of the wider team, this role will assist business development teams on commercial offers, preparation or marketing and communication materials.

Origination & market knowledge (60% of time)

  • Identify, originate, and secure carbon credits from a variety of high quality and high impact projects globally (credit retail opportunities);
  • Identify, develop, and closely manage relationships and networks with project developers to enrich EcoAct's portfolio and offering (credit retail opportunities);
  • Undertake desk-based due diligence analysis of a wide range of carbon projects, to ensure credit quality and depth of co-benefits;
  • Support field-based audits of strategically important carbon projects;
  • Execute the collection, centralization, and storage of project information, prices, vintages, contacts, contracts (MoU, Term Sheets, Cooperation agreements, VERPAs, etc.)

Presales and contract management (40% of time)

  • Lead in developing and managing carbon credit portfolios, in coordination with Portfolio & Partnership team members and regional Business Development team;
  • Lead in developing communication and marketing materials, in coordination with Marketing & Communications team;
  • Actively support Business Development team in closing retail credit deals for customers (customer presentations);
  • Lead in negotiating terms & conditions for all contracts with suppliers (NDA, purchase agreements, etc.), in coordination with Commercial Opportunities Team (with Manager supervision);
  • Ensure alignment between client contract and provider contract from an operational point of view;
  • Ensure the follow-up and control of the customer project schedule, maintain reporting and KPIs);
  • Manage databases, enriching content by adding and updating information on key project monitoring indicators (KPIs) and on communication media (photos, videos, marketing presentations);
  • Lead engagement with EcoAct's Registry Team to ensure on-time delivery of carbon credit retirements and transfers

  • Effective writing skills, with an ability to write concise, compelling, and well-structured documents and reports;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to produce well-presented, error-free results

What qualifications will make you successful for this role?

The successful incumbent will already have a successful track record in a similar capacity or have demonstrated success in a related role. This is not a recent graduate role.

  • Academic background: Bachelors degree (specialization in environmental science, policy, economics, or other relevant discipline)
  • Incumbent must have working knowledge of the voluntary carbon market, ongoing market trends, and main players as well as technical aspects (methodologies and projects)
  • Incumbent must have working knowledge of carbon projects and their impact on the ground, including co-benefits
  • Incumbent must have working knowledge of the carbon project development process and both global certification standards and emergent, or national standards
  • Incumbent must be located within United States time zones, and be willing to travel internationally.
  • Incumbent would ideally be fluent in additional languages such as Spanish, French, or Portuguese. (preferred)
