Job Description and Principal Responsibilities
Introduction:
Northern Trust Shared Services Technology team is seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to join the Transaction Processing and Mutual Funds development teams. We are seeking a senior application consultant who will serve as the teams' Solutions Architect by guiding the development, specification and communication of application architectures used by multiple business and application systems.
Duties and Responsibilities:
•Thoroughly understands decision process issues of technology choice, such as capacities, response time, data interfacing, client server communication, etc.
•Provides technical expertise at the highest level.
•Participates in the building of new and on-going vendor relationships.
•Promotes sharing of expertise through consulting, presentations, and documentations, etc.
•Evaluates and selects from existing and emerging technologies those options best fitting business/project needs.
•Provides in-depth technical consultation to the clients, partners, and IT Management to develop plans and directions to assure the integration of corporate business area requirements.
•Provides training to other application or infrastructure architecture staff.
•Ability to serve as project manager for major projects.
•Identify appropriate technical solutions that provide business value while mitigating technical debt.
•Quickly build proof of concept prototypes with new technologies being researched.
•Enable the development teams by creating working examples, providing training and project-based consulting/expertise.
•Work directly with development teams on concept development, performance issues and other implementation road blocks.
•Solve problems collaboratively.
•Create cloud-related frameworks that instill all of the non-functional requirements in scope.
•Follow and help define cloud delivery best practices.
•Liaise with the Enterprise Architecture groups.
•Acts as a subject matter expert on technologies and trends in cloud, middleware, and infrastructure architectures.
•Create and maintain current and future application architecture diagrams.
•Provide governance of the application architecture and development with periodic code and design reviews.
•Eager to learn legacy implementation by reviewing, adapting and improving code to make compatible with the future vision of the application with limited documentation.
•Desire to learn and understand the business processes of the applications for which the role is responsible.
•Technical knowledge of daily financial and/or investment industry usually acquired through experience in related areas is a plus.
•Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
•Minimum 8 years of experience in information system architecture methodologies.
•Excellent consultative and written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with client, partner, vendor, IT management and staff.
•Strong project management skills and a strong analytical ability.
•Extensive knowledge of application or infrastructure systems architecture, having experience with multiple system technologies.
•Required Technical Experience:
•Minimum 8 years of experience specializing in at least one J2EE AppServer
•Core Spring framework, Spring JDBC, Spring Data, Spring MVC
•Java Persistence Annotation (JPA)
•Object Relational Mapping (ORM) Frameworks like Hibernate or iBATIS
•Core JavaScript
•Knowledge of databases like Oracle (versions > 11), Sybase, DB2
•Unix Shell Scripting
•SQL
•HTML
•Web Services (SOAP, REST)
•Messaging implementations such as MQ, JMS and Solace
•Desired Technical Experience:
•Service Oriented Architectures including Microservices deployment on cloud platforms like PCF, AWS, Microsoft Azure
•Container Architecture Docker, Kubernetes, etc
