Job Description

Position Summary

Plan, direct and supervise between direct labor employees who test products to support new engine shipments.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct and supervise between 10-20 direct labor employees who can assemble or test large engines.
  • Key workforce skills include diesel mechanics, piping, assembly, and electrical hook up.
  • Ensure a safe environment for employees through adherence to safety policies, assessing and eliminating hazards, improving housekeeping standards, conducting incident investigations, and implementing corrective action.
  • Plan and execute production/test schedules to meet production/test requirements.
  • Develop and realize productivity improvements through lean initiatives, standard work instructions, and process improvements.
  • Motivate, monitor, and counsel employees regarding training and performance issues.
  • Develop and manage expense budgets for the test department.

Qualifications, Skills and Educational Requirements

  • Associate degree or bachelor's degree in engineering or manufacturing-related field is preferred.
  • BS in Marine Engineering is a plus.
  • HS Diploma or GED required.
  • 5 years minimum experience and a proven track record in an industrial/marine environment.
  • Excellent communication, project management and organizational skills.
  • Self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision with a result driven approach
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Word and Excel; experience with an ERP system is preferred. Oracle systems experience a plus.
  • Formal lean training strongly desired for visual management and problem solving.
  • Solid understanding and interpretation of engineering drawings, technical plans, test procedures and engine schematics.
  • Experience with large shipboard engines is preferred.
  • Standard work creation for industrial items and/or large engine
  • Understanding of electrical and piping is systems is required.
  • Previous experience managing and supervising in a union-represented environment desired.
  • Ability to operate large Navy diesel engines is preferred.
