Medical Therapy Unit Aide (Finance)

The Bilingual Medical Therapy Unit (MTU) Aide provides support within California Children's Services Medical Therapy Units operated by the Public Health Department and RUHS-Medical Center. This is an entry-level role designed to assist in both administrative and clinical functions under the guidance of licensed Physical Therapists and/or registered Occupational Therapists. The position plays a critical role in ensuring seamless coordination of therapeutic services for children with physical disabilities and chronic health conditions.

The Bilingual Medical Therapy Unit (MTU) Aide supports both clinical and administrative operations within the Medical Therapy Unit. Under the direction of licensed Physical Therapists and/or registered Occupational Therapists, the MTU Aide assists with therapeutic activities and ensures that therapy sessions run smoothly. They perform front office tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing patient intake, and maintaining accurate records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems, including Epic. The role also requires regular use of software tools such as Adobe Sign/Pro, Microsoft Teams, Excel, Outlook, and Word for communication, data entry, and documentation. MTU Aides are essential in facilitating communication between families and therapy staff, serving as advocates for children and their care. They help ensure that follow-up tasks are completed in a timely and organized manner, and they contribute to a clean, safe, and welcoming therapy environment.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Experience or familiarity with EMR systems (Epic preferred) and general office software.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to follow up effectively.
  • Experience in both front office operations and basic patient care duties preferred.
  • Ability to work compassionately and effectively with children and their families.
  • On-the-job training will be provided by licensed therapy staff.

" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" aria-label=" - open in a new tab" data-uw-rm-ext-link="" uw-rm-external-link-id="http:// $ "> • Assist Physical and/or Occupational Therapists in the delivery of treatment to patients with physical disabilities; observe and report on patient behavior under the close supervision of a therapist; assembly of written home programs and assist in the fabrication of hand splints and other therapy related items.

• Assist in coordinating the Medical Therapy Conference; weigh and measure patients, and help prepare patients for their clinic appointments.

• Clean and maintain therapy treatment areas and equipment.

• Maintain tracking log for durable medical equipment; type reports, correspondence and schedules; keep treatment areas, workshops and equipment in order.

• Assist in maintaining supplies; answer telephone calls and provide routine information to patients and staff. OPTION IExperience: Six months in a medical or educational facility assisting individuals with physical and/or occupational disabilities.

OPTION IIExperience: Two years of clerical experience in a California Children's Services agency or equivalent agency.

OPTION IIIExperience: Six months as a nursing or medical assistant supervised by professional medical personnel.

ALL OPTIONSKnowledge of: Modern office practices and procedures including filing and operating standard office equipment.

Ability to: Learn to administer simple therapeutic activities under the direction of a therapist; learn basic principles, methods, and procedures of therapy treatment and therapy unit routine including clerical operations; learn medical terminology related to physically disabling conditions; understand and follow oral and written directions; transport and lift patients with physical disabilities; interact effectively with co-workers, patients, relatives of patients, and others who interface with the therapy unit.This classification's rate of pay will be set in accordance with California Senate Bill 525 requirements for applicable departments

Other Requirements

License/Certificate: Possession of a valid California Driver's License may be required.

Bilingual Testing

The Human Resources Department will coordinate a Bilingual (Spanish) Non-Proctored Assessment.
