R&D LAB ASSISTANT (Biotech)

Get to Know This Role
The Research and Development department operates within the brewery to support and facilitate innovation, production, and quality functions. Equally as important, it conducts novel research and works to procure new, developing materials and technologies for use in the brewery. As a supporting team member of the department, the Lab Assistant aids the R&D analysts and scientists with current research projects and works to maintain good manufacturing practices and general upkeep of the laboratory. The R&D lab is an exciting and stimulating work environment that maintains a strict, professional, and scientific perspective on the brewing process. The R&D lab promotes freethinking, creativity, learning and new ideas, while challenging each other to maintain a high standard.

What You Will Do
  • Prepare samples, standards, and reagents needed to perform experiments in the lab
  • Perform preliminary data processing and transfer of data from instruments to databases and project folders
  • Collect samples in production environment while adhering to good safety practices
  • Work closely with R&D team members, and with other departments that support and assist R&D projects or require support from R&D
  • Train on and run multiple instruments in the lab
  • Maintain lab supplies, cleanliness, and organization
  • Read peer-reviewed scientific and brewing literature regularly
  • Pay attention to detail, and provide accuracy and precision during experimentation, data recording, data analysis, and reporting

Please Apply if You Have
  • Currently enrolled in or have completed a BS or AS program in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, food science, or related science degree required
  • Team Player – must be willing to help where needed
  • Eager to learn new concepts and methods
  • Know when to ask questions or ask for assistance
  • Positive Attitude while multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of the scientific method and its application to problem solving and experimentation
  • Commitment to maintaining scientific rigor, responsibility, and respect in the lab and around the brewery
  • Experience with Microsoft applications (particularly Excel and Microsoft Word)
  • Creativity and ingenuity in problem solving is desired
 
Additional Requirements to Consider Before Applying
  • You must be at least 21 years of age to work for Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.
  • Selected candidate must pass a pre-employment, post offer background check.
