Job Description
Prudential's Corporate Tax Department is seeking an experienced Director for our State and Local tax team.  Prudential's Tax Department is a financial services industry leader with top-talent attorneys and accountants. The tax team is based in Newark, New Jersey.  The preference is for someone to be based hybrid in Newark but open to consider remote candidates nationwide.

The Director of State and Local Tax will report to the Vice President of State Tax. The associate will work on a wide range of multi-state tax matters including tax provision and compliance, planning and business line support, monitoring legislation, research, and audit defense. The position will partner across the Corporate Tax function and collaborate cross-functionally to ensure compliance, minimize risk and support business line goals and objectives.  This position will engage with Big 4 accounting firms and major law firms on tax planning, compliance and audit. 

Responsibilities include:

• Work with co-sourcing firms for state and local income, premium, sales and use, and other tax compliance.
• Tax planning
• Tax accounting - provide documentation and technical support for quarterly and year-end tax provision including assessment of uncertain tax positions and valuation allowances.
• Manage state and local tax controversy, including working with outside counsel and industry peers.
• Assist in monitoring of state and local legislation
• Partner with the businesses to assess state tax implications of new initiatives and business changes.
• Implement tax technology solutions

Preferred Skills/Experience

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or similar field
• CPA, MBA and/or master's degree in accounting or tax a plus
• 8-12 years of experience in corporate income tax compliance with an emphasis on state and local taxes
• Knowledge of applicable state and local tax laws and regulations
• Demonstrated team player skills
• Knowledge of ASC 740
• Knowledge of government and compliance/regulatory reporting
• Well-developed verbal and written communication skills

*Note: Prudential is required by Colorado law to include the salary range for this role when hiring a Colorado resident.

Salary range specific to Colorado: $134,700-182,300 + discretionary incentive bonus + benefits. Eligibility to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance. In addition, employees are eligible for standard benefits package including paid time off, medical, dental and retirement.
